Focalin? | ADHD Information
Well, we went to the pediatrician again today. She prescribed Focalin 10
mg, and I'm hesitant to try it out. I read through the package insert and it
said if there was a history of agitation, it may not be a good idea (or
something to that effect). Is that common with all of the stimulants? My
son is pretty easily annoyed, an example, tonight he decided to repeatedly
hit and kick me because I asked him to put on his pajamas and get ready
for bed (he wanted to play instead) which continued with him telling me I
was the meanest mommy ever and he was going to run away. This is from
a five year old! We have seen a counselor in the past, she suggested
adhd. Since his diagnosis (two pediatricians and one behavioral therapist
and testing session later) we have visited the behavioral therapist once,
we have another visit next week. I'm just so sick of crying over my sons
behavior and the phone calls and notes from school. I feel like he and I
are both being deprived of a 'normal' life due to this. I mean, I discipline
him (we do grounding, taking away toys and privileges, time outs to cool
down in his room) but it just doesn't seem to phase him. I've tried sticker
charts (we may try again). Anyway, does anyone have any positive stories
of Focalin? I hate that this is our second medication (in 2 weeks,
nonetheless!) I feel like I'm using my child as a guinea pig! Sorry if thats
all convoluted, I'm stressed out!I have 2 children diagnosed with ADHD and dyspraxia. My 5 year old daughter tried focalin last year and her concentration improved but her tantrums were unbearable. She is not on medication now. Yesterday she had a huge tantrum at school and hit the teacher. It was her first problem since school started two weeks ago.
My son is 7 and has been on Focalin XR since he was 5. There is a night and day difference. His behavior and concentration is GREATLY improved on the focalin.
I hope it works for your child! Hang in there!
