Why put parents thru this? | ADHD Information
Writing in frustration today.
As DS enters his preteen years, I thought it a good idea to get a re-evaluation of his ADHD/anxiety issues, especially as his current meds are not working well enough or long enough.
So I finally get through to a specialist, who has so many "hoops" to jump through I just want to scream. Phone screening, including fairly invasive questions about "has your family been involved in legal disputes related to the condition." What's with that?
Then, if you're good and answer the symptom questions right, the doctor will review your case and THEN you get to see a SOCIAL WORKER maybe in three months before getting anywhere near the doctor.
We've been to social workers, occupational therapists and doctors. DS was diagnosed years ago. It's a medical problem. I just want to see a doctor, not go through the whole diagnostic process and the "are you doing enough at home for behavioral management" questions. YES! And it doesn't work because, surprise, surprise, he has ADHD!
Okay, rant over, but really why can't this be easier?
I am so with you. Its so tiring sometimes, but at least you're doing it! I hope it all works out for you in the long run.
what kind of doctor is this - i say look somewhere else - we have seen umteen doctors/specialists/therapists/cousillors etc and for the most part i find the visits are useless - its almost like they couldnt wait to put my son on meds and then its always the same old same old. you need to advocate for your child and bang on as many doors as you need to until you find the right answers not just doctors who are worrying about their insurance goign up or getting sued. there are good doctors out there but its a painstaking process. you are right to want your child reassessed now that he is older - things change, they cant expect to put our kids on meds and then move on to the next patient. its an uphill battle but dont give up and dont let anyone stop you from fighting for your son - our adhr's are special and you need to find someone who gets that - its worth the work - as im sure you know. good luck

That sounds like an "Am I going to get sued by these people if something happens to their child or he does something actionable while under my treatment and I get blamed for bad treatment" question. I would check out this Doctor's standing with the pertinent bodies, as it sounds like he or she has been sued before.
