An Alternative to Vyvanse? | ADHD Information

Ok, I need a little help here.  My daughter (9) has been taking ADHD meds since she was 7.  We started on Metadate CD, but after her first dose she went completely nuts and became very aggressive.  She was then put on Vyvanse which seemed to work very well up until now.  She is currently on 70mg of Vyvanse and clonidine at night for sleep issues.  Because she wasn't focusing well in the morning I had to starrt giving her her meds at 7:30am, but by the time 4 or 5 in the evening rolled around, it seemed as if the meds became ineffective (and she has late afternoon activities plus homework that demands her attention).  I am wondering if switching meds might be the right thing to do.  I am a little nervous because she had such a bad reaction to the Metadate and lots of other meds have that same drug as a base.  Will she have the same reaction to other methylphenidate medications or would the reactions be different even though it is the same medication?

For example, she did not do well on the Metadate CD, but would she do ok on Daytrana or would she have the same bad reaction because it is the same medication?  Not sure what to do here.  I was even thinking about going to the non-stimulant, but I haven't seen too many good things about it.  We are also dealing with issues like angerr and meltdowns ( saying things like I want to die) when she "comes down" from her meds and I would like that to stop.  Any suggestions?

When my son was on Vyvanse, we would give him a booster dose of short-acting Adderall (generic form) around 4:00 to help him with evening activities and homework.  Unfortunately Vyvanse stopped working and we had to switch to Concerta.

Since Vyvnase is working well for 10 hours, I'd hesitate to change it.  Is there a short-acting form of Vyvnase you can give as a booster dose to get you through the late afternoon and evening?  If not, how about short-acting Adderall?  Vyvnase and Adderall are in the same family (amphetamines).Don't be afraid to experiment with different kinds, brands and formulations of stimulants.  My son had a bad reaction to a lot of stims, but has been on Focalin for several years without a major problem.  Every time we try to switch to something else (most recently when we tried Concerta last month), we end up going back to the Focalin....
