Blurry vision w/ med increase? | ADHD Information
My 9 year old has been on Concerta for around 2 years now. He was on 36 mg and he started having problems in school again so last week the doc increased it to 54 mg. Now since starting that dose his vision is blurry.
I looked on Concerta's website and didn't see that listed as a side effect but if you google Concerta blurry vision it pulls up a lot of links listing blurry vision as a side effect.
I called the pediatrician's office at 1pm yesterday and left a message and I still haven't heard back from them. I'm going to call back at 8 am when they open but I'm worried now.
Have any of you heard of this?
i have heard of this as a side effect and I think I might have it as a side
effect but right now but I'm not sure due to some other eye issues I am
having. Did it just come out of the blue on the same day or around the
med increase? You could ask the teacher if your child seems to have been
having trouble seeing the board lately. you could also have your kid read
things like signs or make up or print off an eye exam thing and then on a
day they aren't taking it ask them to read the same things and see if
there's a difference. It seems like he probably doesn't need glasses
because it seems to have happened quickly. When a kid needs glasses
they usually don't say their vision is blurry but say that they are having
trouble seeing the board etc. They usually don't know their vision is
blurry because it is what they are used to and happened gradually. If they
notice it is blurry that means it looks different than it did recently
because they can tell vision is off. Don't freak out though. I told my
doctor and she told me it would not be permenant and would go way
when the medicine is out of my system if it is a side effect. She just
decreased my dose a little but didn't seem worried at all. by the way, I'm
taking vyvanse. I would recommend getting an eye exam. The 4th-6th time frame is when both my daughters went through lots of vision changes and needed to get glasses. I didn't know this at the time, but there eyes change during puberty and can change pretty quickly. My youngest went from being fine to needing glasses in a 6 month time period. Her prescription changed again in another 6 months.
At the time, I was wondering if it was related to her concerta because we had just switched to it from Ritalin LA, but in our case, it wasn't related at all.
