Losing weight with Adderall XR | ADHD Information
Hello all!
I am new to the discussion board, and I looked through previous
questions, but I did not find one that was exactly like mine. I am sure it
has probably been asked before, and so I apologize if it is a repeat.
I am overweight, with a BMI of 29, and I am 19 years old. I have been
trying recently to lose weight by eating healthier (less added sugar and
fat/ more vegetables) and I exercise every day.
However, I recently decided to treat my ADHD, which was diagnosed two
years ago. I am on Adderall XR 10 mg, and it is a miracle drug. My grades
are improving, and everything academic/ work-related seems to be going
smoothly.
The problem: I have been losing weight much faster than before, mainly
because I have a very suppressed appetite. My physician says this is
normal, and that I shouldn't be worried because I am still overweight. But
if I forget to eat (which I do quite often) I can go a day or two without
solid food without even noticing, and this worries me. I try to remember
to eat (pack a salad lunch, set a timer, etc.) but when it is time to eat, it is
hard to force anything down, healthy or unhealthy, because I just don't
want it.
I fear this is unhealthy, because I am not getting the nutrients I need, and
I feel that my dramatic weight loss is not the healthy type of weight loss. I
just discussed this with my doctor this afternoon (who is usually excellent
at addressing my concerns) and she said, "Oh, don't worry! You look
great!" I get a similar response from family members and friends when I
have tried discussing my concerns.
I want to look great, but how unhealthy is this? Has this happened to
anyone else? I am taking multi-vitamins with my Adderall XR 10 mg as a
precaution.
Am I losing muscle mass? Has anyone else experienced this? I am actually
just concerned about nothing? And would it be healthier to just drop the
weight to a normal BMI and then go from there?
I appreciate any stories or advice, and I am so thankful that I found this
discussion site.
