I know that it's generally said that children under 5 should not be medicated but excpetions are made for the severe children. (like mine!) And I believe that no parent WANTS to put their child on medication at first and we all fight doing it to a certain extent. But I've seen a lot of posts here where people say they wish they had medicated earlier. I'm curious how many of you feel that way. I'm also curious if there are any people out there that regret medicating their kids early and if they do how sever ADHD is the child.
Just so you know where I stand...I started medicating my son several months before his 4th birthday. He was sooooooo bad that the docs didn't even give me a fight about it. The meds have allowed him to live his life! He's so much happier and well adjusted than he used to be! His self esteem is back to normal and I wouldn't have it any other way. But I know that he is an extreme case and this is NOT the right choice for every child.
I'm just curious about it so any responses will be appreciated!
I have a 3 year old who we decided to medicate after several scary situations in which her impulsivity almost got her hurt. It is a safety issue and I can't regret it. We are still trying to find the "right" med but at least I don't worry about her running out into traffic or climbing onto the roof anymore (NO, she never actually succeeded in getting on the roof
) !
(And YES, we do keep a VERY close eye on her and are using every child safety device known to man!)
