7 year old going to try medication | ADHD Information
The doctors in my area usually start with Adderall or Ritalin (or the generics). They both have long acting types-like Adderall XR. For example the regular Ritalin is supposed to last 4 hours but the long acting type has two of the 4 hour "layers". One disolves immediately and the 2nd in about 4 hours. Also, Ritalin has generic chewable which is what my son it on. It's called Methylin and it's fast acting. I just mention this because in the beginning when you're trying to find out which medication is the best it's usually easier to start with the short acting type to be able to make adjustments to the timing and dose easier than the long acting. Hope this helps and good luck on your medicine journey! Once you get it right it's sooooo much better!
Hi all -
I am so grateful to have found these message boards -- all of the posts have been invaluable to me in the past few weeks!
My 7-year old son was just diagnosed by our psychologist with ADHD -- impulsive type. He is recommending working with our pediatritian to prescribe meds. I am okay with trying the meds, but was wondering if anyone had any advice as to what is best to try first...? I would prefer something longer - lasting because my son does NOT like to take medicine at all.
Thank you so much!
