My son hasn't ever taken Strattera but I know it's a medication that has to build in the system. It's not like the stimulants (Ritalin, Adderall, etc) that are completelely out of the system within hours. It takes time to build up to see the full effect-usually weeks. So I would think that taking it at night vs. in the morning wouldn't matter for the effectivenss. It should last just fine.
I am a 46 year old female with 67 kgs. I will never forget when I started taking strattera March 2008. Within 3 days I had moments where I felt mellow for the first time in my life. I felt it effected me amazingly, I could listen to my children, perceive my surroundings in a very awake way. My husband didnt notice a thing. I felt it was like putting glasses on. I now take Ritalin when I need it for work, concentrated periods on top (only 5mg). I cant tell the difference there, but hubby can. I wouldnt react too quickly with Stratt. it is difficult to make observations from the outside. I am still on it 40mg twice a day. I started only one dosage of 50/60 cant remember exactly, but needed it at the end of the day (took it only mornings). It is a bit odd that I needed it evenings too but I have lots of meetings evenings and felt better equipped to think on my feet with one capsule in the evening too.
I would suggest having a drink before trying to swallow the capsule, it gives you dry mouth and so it isnt enough just to swallow it with water, it needs to be really wet first so that it can slide.
I wish your children all the best on this medicament, I am really pleased with it.
