meds | ADHD Information
atom, thanks for the advice. i am going to tell her doctor. i have asked my daughter if the meds make her feel different and she says no. she was taking 20 mg and i dropped her back down to 10 mg. she's not as quiet and withdrawn but im not sure if its going to be enough for her to be able to focus in school. now that she's going back to school from the holiday, i'll see what her teacher says. her teacher actually has adhd and takes concerta, so she has been a great help and very understaanding. to answer your question, she is sleeping fine and does not have any nightmares. when she was on 20 mg she wasn't eating until the meds wore off. for the past couple of days since she has been on 10 mg she eating a little better. my daughter is 6 years old. she is taking 10mg of ritalin la 2x a day for about 6 weeks. she seems to be very withdrawn. she doesnt seem to be happy and she starts picking at her fingers as soon as the meds kick in. i dont know if she is on too high of a mg and its making her too focused or if i should change her meds. also when it wears off, she seems more hyper than she was before she ever started the meds.

if anyone has any advise for me it would be appreciated because i need it really bad. I want to calm her down enough to be able to focus on her schoolwork. i do not want to change her personality. Perhaps you should tell this to her doctor or pediatrician. He/she can decide if the dosage is too much.
Also, does your daughter tell you if the medicine bothers her at all?
What are her feelings about it? Jot down what she says and let the
physician know. Is she sleeping well? Having any nightmares?
From my point of view it appears that the withdrawness is from too high
of a dose, or perhaps a fluctuation. Do you ever stop giving it too her
on certain days? Sometimes this causes a slight physical change as well
as a change in behavior.
