Hello

I have been on ritalin for 4 weeks now and I have had to up my dose from 20 mg to one 10 mg in the mid afternoon. I am 36 and just got diagonsed three weeks ago so we are doing what is called a trial run!!!  everytime i take my pill i get a horrible taste in my mouth!!!  What do others do about this and do the other meds do this as well or just the ritalin?!

thanks

Sarah

well, it seems to me that it may be very possible that is may be something about the actual pill, vs. what medicine it is. Since most pharmacies automatically fill in generic, I am going to assume that is what you have. Different generic manufacturers will make their pills with different binders and fillers, and while one can't be sure, it seemslike this is certainly a possible culprit. If you are in fact using a generic, you may try switching to a different pharmacy. It's very possible to go to 4 different pharmacies, one after another, and find they all carry manufacturers for the same medicine. All you have to do is call and ask, and they can tell you who the moanufacturer is over the phone. Also, since you say you are newly diagnosed, I feel it is important to note, the manufacturer of the pill can affect alot more than just what the pill looks like, or in your case, tastes like. There are some people who disagree with this, but i think you'll find alot more that agree: some manufactureres make very poor quality generic medicines that just dont seem to work out well at all (especially with the methylphenidates, i.e. ritalin.) So if you find you are not having any luck with a particuar medicine, before you give up, try going to a different pharmacy who has it by a different manufacturer. It can literally make a world of difference, and the difference between the medicine working for oyu and it not. When I can afford it or my insurance at the time permits it, I just ask for it to be filled in brand name rather than generic, MAKES A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE AND SAVES ALOT OF TROUBLE.
Good luck, hope you find a solution. It would be a shame if you found a medicine that helps you and had to stop taking it because of a bad taste in your mouth. Please update and let us know if you fixed the problem, I would be interested to know how your situation resolves.

thank you so much for your response!! i had asked my doctor about the real stuff and he said to keep my money in my pocket,,, but that might be just something to think about!!!
