School going better | ADHD Information

Share

I posted the topic Therapy about two weeks ago out of complete and utter frustration.  I did not know what to do anymore.  It seemed like my DS was going in reverse.  He is 8 and in 2nd grade and we have run the gamet of every ADHD med that is out there.  We finally tried Vyvanse about a year ago and it was a miracle.  He was able to focus and he was calmer.  He did not have any of the side affects he has on Adderall or Concerta.  Recently he has been getting behavior notes home from his teacher and I was getting frustrated thinking that the meds weren't working any longer. I have known forever that all his meds take about 2 hours to really start working so the mornings have always been a struggle.  Last Friday I woke him up an hour early just to take his Vyvanse and then let him go back to sleep.  I am here to say that there has been a complete turn around.  His teacher emailed me Monday and told me that he is doing much better.  He actually got a smily face on his behavior sheet.    He was so proud when he got home.

The only draw back is that he is not hungry in the morning but he will still sit down and eat a little for me.  The evenings are a little more crazy but I can deal with that if he is doing better in school.  I just hope and pray that the Vyvanse continues to work because we have tried everything else out on the market and this is the last med.  We also can't up his dose yet because he has been stuck at 48-50pds for a year now even though he eats everything in sight at night.  He burns through the calories so quick.  Oh well you take the good with the bad and love them forever.

Thanks for listening

It's great to hear that things are going better!  Isn't it "funny" how a small change in the meds (or timing) can make such a big difference!  As for the evenings...maybe he needs a booster dose in the afternoon to help out in the evening...just a thought!  I hope it keeps getting better for him!
