? about Vyvanse | ADHD Information
Well, for a stimulant medication like vyvanse, you should see SOME improvement immediately. It may take a couple of weeks for the body/brain to get accustomed to it's presence and reach it's full potential on the drug, but it is a stimulant medication that acts immediately, so you should notice some signs if it is in him (that is, if it is going to work for him.) I myself just got off Vyvanse, I just didn't find that it was doing for me what I thought it would, and what other meds already do, therefore I let it go. I thought this was particularly peculiar, since it contains the same ingredient as adderall, it's basically just a purer form of it, and I had alot of success with adderall.
You said you have tried other meds before. Have any of the other stimulant medications you tried worked for him?My son is 5 years old and was diagnosed with ADHD back in March '09. We have tried several different medicines. It doesn't seem like we can get it right. The doctor just put my son on Vyvance 30mg and it doesn't seem to be working at all. He is still hyper, not listening and acting out just to get more attention. His school also says he is having problems focusing. He has only been on the medicine for about 3 days, does it take a while to work?
My son (7) has been on Vyvanse for about 2 months now. For the first 45 days it worked BEAUTIFULLY! He was a different child. It took about 2 days to really see the effect.
Unfortunately, now he seems to be having horrible rebound issues in the evening when the meds wear off - crying, aggressive, out of control.
I think we will likely be changing meds, but it did work well initially. Have you talked to the doctor? It may be too low of a dosage - I know docs typically start kids on a very low dose to start with.
Keep us posted.
