ADHD person and Prozac | ADHD Information
I´m sorry if Im posting it in the wrong forum but it´s my first time posting here!
I´m wondering if someone here has experience with using antidepressive med Prozac and how did it work with your ADHD (or ADD)?
Actually, your English is quite good.
As for your problem, many people, including several on this boards, have themselves and their children on ADHD meds along with prozac or other SSRI antidepressants of that type, generally most people seem to think they go very well together. There are no negative effects from the combination, not for most people anyway, and many people actually take an antidepressant to actually counterbalance any negative problems occuring from adhd meds. They seem to go very well together for alot of people. Also, a little know fact is that the stimulants, in addition to affecting the reuptake of Dopamine and Norepinephrine (which are the main culprits involved in ADHD) stimulants also do promote serotonin release. I cannot remember if it's by blocking reuptake of serotonin or promoting the release of new serotonin, but either way they do increase serotonin levels while they are in effect, some more than others, so that is one reason they compliment each other so nicely for so many people. Being on both of those kind of meds can make each one work better. It's quite interesting. As I said, I also was on this combo last year, adding the SSRI for depression reasons, I certainly had no problems. Lexapro/Celexa would be a much better choice than specifically prozac, since while they are the same type of drug as prozac they are newer, and have much higher success rates and much lower incidences of major side effects as well. Of course I have no idea of your medical history adn im sure your doctor will know what is best to put you on (hopefully) but it is just a suggestion you might want to look into. Since Celexa is now manufactured in generic form, I THINK that is when they stop giving out free samples of it; HOWEVER Lexapro (which is almost the exact same thing as celexa, just a minor difference in chemical structure) should be very easy to get free samples of, if they have any they should be able to load you up. I would inquire about it. Go to revoultionhealth.com, look up celexa or lexapro (or anything for that matter) and look at the Ratings and Reviews section. You will see an overwhelmingly positive response and written experiences of people who have used the drugs. I find that reading other peoples expereinces with medications first gives you a much better idea of what you're in for, and definitely can be very comforting especially when they indicate such a positive outcome. Good luck to you, oth in finding a good doc in your area and finding a good treatment. Everyone deserves a chance to be happy. Please keep posting and let us know your progress.
Best wishes.I myself have taken the combination, although it may not be relevant to your question, because the prozac (or actually in my case it was lexapro) was added not for adhd but for actual depression that was unrelated to the adhd. You may get better responses if you let us know why you are asking (i.e., are you taking prozac along with stimulant medication to balance out any anger, anxiety, or other emotional issues the stimulant is causing you, or are you taking it for actual depression and want to know if it will interfere with your adhd meds?)Thank you for your answer.
I´ve been looking for antidepp to ask my doctor for (he´s just a normal "famillydr.) I´ve been getting more depressed and I´ve come to that point that I feel that I cant be without meds... both for me and my daughter.
I´m waiting to get a dr who specializes in mental sickness and ADHD.
p.s. sorry for my bad english... it´s not my main language.
