concerta, dexedrine, strattera | ADHD Information

Hi I got diagnosed with adhd in August and was first put on Concerta the 18mg it was going well at first and then switched to the 24mg. These pills were working awesome for me the only problem was that as the doasage went up my skin became more sensitive especially if I would go tanning it would be like I got burnt really easily. So the doctor took me off of them and put me on dexedrine which i found not as effective I also had weir things happen like confusing times with things and such. I am now starting on strattera and the last few days I am just extremely tired and just want to sleep. Does anyone know if there is something that works like concerta but might not make my skin sensitive? I looked up ritalin and another methylphenidate medication called bipherine or something like that and was wondering if I would get the same reaction from those or not or if anyone has taken strattera. Any advice is appreciated. I also live in Canada so Im not sure which ones can be prescribed here jordanshelley40152.6122222222My first reaction is why are you going tanning?  That is not good for your skin.  But anyway, I don't know why you'd be having a skin sensitivity.  But I do know that Strattera can take weeks before its benefits are noticed.  You may want to give it some time and see if the fatigue goes away.  You may also want to share your concerns with your doctor.  I believe the medication you might be referring to is Bupropion which is actually the ingredient in Wellbutrin.  Wellbutrin is actually an anti-depressant - not a stimulant.  Methylphenidate is a stimulant.  I think (don't quote me) that anti-depressants do cause more sensitivity to sunlight (or tanning beds if you prefer).  But it's best to check with your doctor.  Good luck to you.
As for the Strattera, that is exactly how I felt when i was first taking it. However I chose to tough it out, and when those effects passed Strattera actually worked wonderful for me. As for your the methylphenidates, before you give up on them totally, try switching to another formulation of it. In addition to concerta, Ritalin, Metadate, and Daytrana also all contain methylphenidate. Maybe something about the particular binders/fillers that are in conerta are not agreeing with you, and it is causing your body to have an advers reaction. It is at least worth a shot, it would be a shame to have to just not take methylphenidate ever again without exhausting all your options first, since it works so well for you. Good luck, give us an update when you get one.
