Resperidone..anyone trying this?

HI,

DS, age 6, ADHD, SPD - stimulis seeking..stimulants didn't work, Tenex didn't work.  Aggressive, Impulsive..difficult.  Dr. says Resperidone, .25 mg increasing to .25 twice a day.  Anyone with experience.  Is this a reasonable treatment for ADHD..  Dr indicated that we might have something else going on..but not Autism.  Anyone?  This med makes me nervous.

My DS (ADHD and Asperger's) is currently taking Risperdal.  He took traditional stimulants for his ADHD for years but they began to fail him this fall.  He was experiencing horrible side effects; anger, irritablity, aggitation.  Dev. ped. started  him on Risperdal when she took him off the stimulants.  He takes .25mg in the AM and .125 in the PM.  We tried him on this alone for a little while but he was off the wall at school.  He did start eating a lot but that was good because he's very underweight.  He's also sleeping very soundly to the point of wetting the bed 2 or 3 nights a week.  Ugg!  The Risperdal alone did nothing for his ADHD but his dose is very small still.  We did try reintroducing the stimulants but bad side effects again.  We are currently trying Tenex along with the Risperdal.  It was great the first 10 days but after that it's like he's taking nothing.  Doctor thought that the risperdal might be enough for the ADHD but it wasn't in our case.  We go back tomorrow for another dev. ped. appointment to figure out what's next.  I hope this helps.PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT TAKE RISPERADONE. My ds was on it for 3.5 yrs and now has a permanent tic we cannot get to go away. Google it and find MANY warnings/lawsuits now as there was none when we started it.While it's true that tehre may be some potentialwith this drug in certain cases, seemingly with the more aggressive/hostile forms of ADHD, it seems like it would still be better regarded as a last resort. This drug is an antipsychotic, and while all drugs can have side effects, some of the ones this one carries are pretty hefty. I know of actual people with schizophrenia that don't/won't take this med. Still, definitely listen to what the doc says, but if it were MYSELF, i wouldnt use it unless all else fails.

Decided to have an additional consult with DS's Dr last night.  We all decided to step back from the Risperadone and give the acting stimulants an additional try.  Thank you all for input!

Wish us luck!
