Worried - I have been hearing music! | ADHD Information
I would call your doc right away. I don't take Ritalin but my son does and the doctor said if he had any hallucinations to call him. I don't think it can cause things like Schizophrenia (but I'm not a doctor) but you shouldn't have to deal with this side effect either. First the doc needs to figure out if it's the medication causing them then, if it is, adjust the dose or change it all together. Good luck! I'm a 27 y/o female, I just started on Ritalin, about 20-30mg/day about 2 weeks ago. I recently noticed that at night, before going to bed, I would hear faint music, but I would get up, check my radio, etc... and nothing would be on. It is so realistic that for the past 3 nights, I have actually gotten out of bed, opened the window, thinking that perhaps there was music playing outside. It is faint-- sounds like something that is going on outside, but it is music.
I have been extremely lacking sleep lately, but I have lacked sleep in the past, and have never experienced any type of hallucinations before. I did a brief search of ritalin and hallucinations, and it seems to be an uncommon side effect. I am worried that continuing to take this medication might result in psychological issues, such as schizophrenia?
Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I am quite worried. Could it be caused by anything serious that I'm not aware of, or will it go away if I decrease my dosage?
