still researching daytranaHi All, Just wondering if anyone has recent experiance with Daytrana. We used to use Concerta which was ok and lately have been doing the natural thing. 4th grade is a little tougher for Wyatt because there is alot more independent work. Since he is ADD and not ADHD, we have started the daytrana patch today, but he will not have them on weekends and holidays. Here is what I have found out so far...It is the same molecule as concerta, ritalin etc. It can be effective in a lower dose because it is a steady stream of med. It is a 9 hour patch tha tis supposed to be effective for 12 hours. It can be removed earlier than 9 hours if it isn't needed, which is supposed to help with the sleep difficulties and lack of appetite. I did find it hard to peel the adhesive off this morning. Right now he is on 10mg. The teacher has already e-mailed me today to say he finished some work that has been dragging and he "working better than he has all year". We'll see...I am just wondering if anyone else is using it and if there have been issues or if there are any suggestions. I did a search on here but there is nothing recent and it seems like maybe the people who wrote the posts might not be on anymore. My DS(11) has ADHD combined type, has been on Daytrana for about 2.5yrs. It has worked great for him. He started on 20mg, then dropped to 15mg because of some anxiety issues, and has been there for almost two years. One side effect that we see is that he is not very hungry during the day. Also, it does take awhile to kick in the morning. It has been great because he can remove it as soon as he gets home from school and be hungry by dinner time. In the past year he has started having tics, so we put him on Tenex, which worked well. Now we are trying Intuniv with Daytrana to see if eventually the Intuniv will work alone, but only because of the weight and tic issues. If the Intuniv won't work on it's own, DS will be back on Daytrana with Tenex. Before Daytrana we tried Concerta, Adderall, and Ritalin LA. None worked near as well as the Daytrana. DD(14) is ADD inattentive and tried Daytrana 30mg soon after her diagnosis two years ago. It agitated her and made her very irritable. She then did Vyvanse for two years before stopping stimulants completely due to anxiety and OCD. Hope this helps! Heather Thanks for this thread .. my son (8) has been prescribed Daytrana 10mg but our insurance is not covering it - at least not immediately and we're now waiting for them to review the case... That is so sad for your son. Insurance companies really stink! Our script would have been 190.00. If our insurance would have paid I couldn't have done it for sure. Good luck, I hope it works out for you! So far so good for us. Wyatt actually reminded his teacher that he needed to go to the nurses office at 2:00 to have the patch removed. I had put it on while he slept at 5 so that he could take it off before he gets on the bus to go home. He goes home with my other son after school and no one would have been there (that I trust) until 4 to remove it. I also figured that it would help him get to sleep better and he seemed to fall asleep normally last night. Thanks for the info heatherr1. Is your son on it every day? My DS is on it every school day, but only takes Intuniv on the weekends. Before DS was on Tenex or Intuniv he would rebound so badly on Saturday when not wearing the patch, but I wanted him to go without so that he would eat more. I have a feeling that the Intuniv alone is not going to control DS's hyperactivity and impulsiveness, so he will probably be on Daytrana and Tenex again. I was very happy with that combo. |
