AdderallXR + Strattera? | ADHD Information

My 9-year old niece is taking both these ADHD drugs at the same time. Is this OK?

Also, her grandmother says she might have autism, because she tends to "zone-out", or go into her own little world, and you have to snap her out of it. Could this be just a side effect of the meds?

Thanks!

It's very common for doctors to prescribe both Adderall and Straterra when one has helps some sypmtoms but not others. Usually it is something like the Adderall helps with the impulsive or hyper behavoir but didn't help with the focus so they add another drug to see if that balances it out.

If she zoned out before meds then it's just a symptom of ADHD but if she only started Zoning out after meds then her dose is too high or she is on the wrong medication.

Also a combination of meds is usually only given when a single med has failed so I'd be concerned if the doctor jumped the gun and loaded her up on two meds right away.
