| Strattera vs. Rittalin | |||

My doctor just changed my prescription to Strattera instead of Rittalin. I used to take a 10mg tablet twice a day of Rittalin. Now I take one Strattera 27mg a day. It's terrible, it's no different than taking nothing at all. The Rittalin was working, but not terribly well. I have only been on meds for these two months. I was wondering if that was a small dose of Rittalin? Maybe I just needed more Rittalin. I am drinking ten cups of coffee a day again and I just got a damned speeding ticket yesterday and the only way I can drive slow is when I am on Rittalin. Is strattera the same thing as Rittalin? My doctor said it's the same thing but it would just go 8 hours instead of 4. It sucks I know that much. Thanks for any input! LOL straterra is in no way related to Ritalin. If your doctor wanted to give you a similar med he would have given you dexadrine, Adderall or even Concerta (long lasting ritalin). Have you been on the straterra for two months or just medication in general (ritalin Included) If you just started Straterra your not going to see any results. It takes at least 4-6 weeks to build up in your system to really work. Which is different from Ritalin which works instantly. I don't understand why your doctor didn't up the ritalin if you had success with it. 10mg is a small dose so I would definately ask your doctor about it. It's not like you were taking a huge dose and the doctor was afraid to go higher. He still had a lot of room to raise it. If you just started the straterra I'd call the doctor and see why he didn't raise the ritalin. If you wait a month till a new appointment or until the straterra runs out then you'll have to go through withdrawal when you stop taking it. So if you absolutely don't want straterra and want to try ritalin you should stop it as soon as possible. I'm seriously questioning what your doctor is up to with the switch. He says it's the same just lasts 8 hours instead of 4. Concerta is the long acting form of Ritalin not Straterra. Straterra isn't even a stimulant, from the 10 cups of coffee comment it sounds like you respond well to stimulants so changing you to a non stim med doesn't make much sense. Might be time to find a new doctor.
My doctor just changed my prescription to
You also may ask your MD if you can continue supplementing the Strattera with some Ritalin until the Strattera kicks in (it takes it some time for the effects to be felt). Also, you may need to increase the dosage of the Strattera. I take a 20mg of Adderall XR along with my 40mg. of Stattera, every AM, and it seems to work well. I was having trouble with the Strattera alone making me drowsy. HI IM 28YRS AND HAVE 5 BOYS AND 3 HAS ADHD/DYPSRAXIA, I MYSELF WAS DIGNOSED YESTERDAY WITH ADHD. MY ELDEST WHOM IS 9YRS WAS ON RITALIN SINCE HE WAS 3YRS AND A FEW MONTHS BACK THEY CHANGED HIM TO STRATTERA WHICH I THINK IS ALOAD OF RUBBISH, THE ONLY GOOD THING IS THAT HE NOW SLEEPS WHERE AS B4 HE DIDNT, SO I STARTED HIM BACK ON RITALIN ASWELL AS THE STRATTERA OR HOWEVER YOU SPELL IT LOL, IT SEEMS LIKE HIS NOT ON ANYTHING TOO, HIS PUPILS ARE LARGE AND HIS MOUTHY AS EVER. STRATTERA IS A HERBAL TABLET WHERE AS RITALIN IS A CONTROLLED DRUG AND HAS SPEED IN LOL I MYSELF WILL BE GOING ON A SLOW RELEASE TABLET WHICH MY SON HAD MANY MOONS AGO AND IT DIDNT WORK AND HE NEARLY KILLED US ( LONG STORY ) WELL I TRIED THAT TABLET WHEN I WAS TAKING MY DRIVING TEST FOR THE 2ND TIME AND TO BE HONEST IT MADE ME FEEL LIKE I WAS SPEEDING OUT OF MY NUT AND I DROVE LIKE A MAD WOMEN!, MY MOUTH WAS DRY TOO, I FAILED LOL, WELL ON MY 3RD, 4TH , I FAILED TOO AND PASSED ON MY 5TH YIPEEEEE I WOULD GO AND ASK TO BE PUT ON RITALIN AGAIN, YOUR DOSAGE WAS VERY LOW, MY SON IS ON 10MG 3X A DAY PLUS STRATTERRA PLEASE LET US KNOW HOW THINGS GO XX ME AGAIN LOL I FORGOT TO SAY SOMETHING LOL MY SON SHANE IS ON STRATTERA 40MG HIS 9YRS OLD, ALSO ON 10MG 3X DAY OF RITALIN... THE DR TRIED TO CUT THE RITALIN DOWN SLOWLY BUT WHEN IT STOPPED COMPLETELY ( EXCUSE SPELLING IM GETTING HYPER AS ITS LATE LOL ) HE CHANGED AND GOT WORSE SO I STARTED THE RITALIN AGAIN Concerta IS the one that im going on soon, i hope it makes a difference to me, i would ask your dr to put you back on ritalin drs are trying to take ritalin away all together as its a controlled drug where as strattera is a new type but herbal and to be honest does nothing, god im just reading back and find im repeating myself again lol im off to be before i start waking the kids up lol night all
Since when is Straterra an herbal med. I'm so confused i was told by my childrens dr whom started him on stratterra that its a herbal tablet! im only saying what i was told lol you guys in the USA invented it, was i given the wrong info? Straterra has more possible risks and side effects then stimulent meds. I was always told herbal meant natural and safe and Straterra is no way either of those. Doesn't mean it is bad obviously it has worked for many people but the risk is the same as with all drugs.Strattera didn't work well for me. I was just put on Ritalin SR. I feel much better now. I don't know what your doc was talking about but Strattera is nothing like Ritalin. It talks about Strattera on their web site. Ritalin is a controlled substance, Strattera is not.
I believe so! I have never, ever, heard word one about Strattera being "herbal"! It's not technically a stimulant, but it's certainly not an "herbal tablet". If it were, you would need no Rx to obtain it..... Here is it in detail, from a medical website: "Atomoxetine (Strattera) is a methylphenoxy-benzenepropanamine derivative with antidepressant activity and is thought to enhance noradrenergic function via selective inhibition of the presynaptic norepinephrine transporter. Atomoxetine is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, reaching peak levels in 1.83 hours in pediatric patients and 1-1.5 hours in adults. The clinical efficacy of atomoxetine in the treatment of ADHD has been evaluated in six published clinical trials of children and adolescents and two studies enrolling only adults. Clinical trial data indicate that atomoxetine is safe and well tolerated for the treatment of ADHD; however, safety data about long-term use (greater than one year) are unavailable. Hope that helps.... Strattera is an FDA approved drug with a relatively low side effect profile if you can get past the first few weeks of sleepiness from what I have been told. One of my own concerns with starting on medication is my prediliction( like a high percentage of us) to substance abuse. I wont take ritalin because of that. I dont know yet if strattera will help but for me ritalin isnt a real option. It does take time to work. It's side efects profile is less than prozac etc. Ritalin is a real crappy drug to take over a lifetime from what I have read even if someone necer passes into the wonderful world of substance abuse. IT does take time maybe you just need to give it some. The studies show it's effacy is equal to ritalin it just takes a few weeks to kick in. |
