Dilated Pupils

My son is trying to switch over from Ritalin to Strattera over the Xmas break from school.  Things seem to be going pretty well even though it hasn't totally kicked in yet.  Here's my question:  Has anyone noticed dilated pupils when taking Strattera?  I noticed last night that my son's pupils are huge.  He's not displaying any other side effects and otherwise seems ok. Any thoughts?

Thanks for any input!

Hi!  Glad things seem to be going well.  It takes a lot of patience to get through the first few weeks.  The one thing I noticed right away was how much happier my daughter seemed.  Are you noticing less anxiety issues?  We did not notice anything with her pupils though.

Hope it works out for you!

Hello!  Yes I've noticed less anxiety!  He's also less emotional and his sensory problems seem to be better.  Before he was soooo sensitive to sound and the strangest things would scare him.  I see a lot less of that with the Strattera.

Doc just bumped him up to 30 mg and it seems to get a little better each day.  I hope it continues and they hyperactivity keeps calming also.  That's the main thing now. But didn't you say that took a while longer than everything else?

It definitely took longer for the hyperactivity to diminish.  And truthfully, she is still a very "active" 3 1/2 year old by most standards.  However, she can be disciplined by more traditional methods now and actually listens most of the time.  Really, we can re-direct most of her ADHD behaviors 9 times out of 10 now!  Even her teachers have commented on how much better she listens and how much easier it is to refocus her.  The psych said we could add a micro-dose of stimulants to help if needed but we are choosing not to do that right now.  We chose to medicate for her happiness and safety.  She is back to my happy kid and exhibits much safer behavior now so I don't want to put that back into her system if possible.  We still use clonidine at night.I started researching Straterra for this very reason. In the evening, my son's pupils get HUGE. There doesn't seem to be any other side effect, but I'm slightly relieved to see that someone else had the same question. If your doctor gave you any answers, let me know. We live in a rural area, and my son's pediatrician isn't real familiar with Straterra. I usually have to educate myself, but I can't find any other reference to dilated pupils on the sites I've looked into. Anyway, let me know what you find out. I keep forgetting to ask the doctor about the pupils when I talk to her! (there's my horrible memory again !) but after I made this original post I started researching on the net to see if anyone else mentions this.  I found a lot of different message board entries where people said they also noticed the large pupils.  Most people said it wasn't a problem.  Some of them said they checked with an eye doctor and there wasn't a problem.  The only problem that I saw people complain about was that it makes their eyes very sensitive.  When I finally remember to ask the doc I'll let you know what she says! Thank you so much. I'd appreciate that.
