Tic? | ADHD Information

Hi Sandy,

Sure it's possible!!   If it is a tic, then I predict that it will move around and "morph" itself into different presentations... eye-blinking, shoulder twitching, or maybe it'll move next to his feet or hands.  Tics do that...move around, as if they're checking out what the options are in different parts of the body.   My tics first started in the shoulders.... then I got some wrist action to accompany the shoulders....my back (spinal column) feeling left out I guess, started to twitch, and I mean really twitch!! The whole bed would undulate and bounce when all of the sudden my back shot into a perfectly straight, and tense,  pillar....gradually subsiding over the following minute or two.  But my tics moved around for about a year and now seem settled in my shoulders, lower spine, and wrists, with some sporatic calf action every now and then.   Only happens when I'm in a very relaxed fiscal state...like when I'm lying in bed or on the couch resting.

'nuf 'bout me...sorry, I got carried away.  So, yeah, if the breathing persists, but doesn't change, it might or might not be a tic.  I think if you see the deep breaths changing over time...and if you see other new, involuntary muscle or voice activation, the that seems pretty strong evidence that tics are the cause.   Good Luck...you and your son will work thru it!

Yes, it's possible.   My daughter did that for a while I had a hard time figuring it out if it was tic or asthma problem.  She was getting out of breathe a little more easily as well and was complaining of not getting enough air.  Had her evaluated for asthma and it was really borderline as to whether or not that was an issue or not.  In the end,  I didn't treat her for asthma and eventually it went away.   In hindsight,  I think  it was a tic as she has had the eye blinking tic in the past.

Hi,

DS, age 6, has been on Ritalin for about 6 weeks with great results.  But, the last two nights he has been taking deep sighs..every few minutes for at lease an hour or so ..  I haven't notice it during the day.  His last dose is at 12:00 noon.  But, this is after the meds have worn of..   Is it possible that this is a "tic"?  Any input would be appreciated.
