thanks

Please contact your Dr. to make sure it is wise to just stop the medication...I am not sure how long it has been since he has been on the medication but sometimes stopping cold turkey could cause harm.

not to be ignorant to that fact but what kind of harm???? i am really at the point that his pediatrician is just running us thru the mill everytime i go in there i always see vendors from pharmacuetical companies pushing every product they have out there -- i called in a script for him 24 hours in advance to pick up at the office i get there and it was never done i was told to come back the next day this was for the Concerta i could not risk that with him going to kindergarten the next day now im the bad guy because i got upset with the receptionist and the dr on call that evening refused to fill it unless i brought him in and dropped another 25.00 copay so as you can see im at my wits end with them so i have made an appointment to have him see my dr. since he is in a family practice -- im willing to try anything at this point in time

well, some medication taken for a long period of time can cause withdraw and withdraw symtoms can occur, if cut out cold turkey. I had to be weined down slowly from an asthmatic medication so i my system would not go into shock (theolophlin) was taken of the market and they gave me the last 30 days to wein off.  talk about major withdraw symtoms, shakes, headaches, sick to my stomach..ectNAE NAE...Concerta is not a blood level medication so therefore there is no weaning off process. With regard to the other meds, always call your pharmacist for accurate information and guidance. As with any medication for childhood disorders, they are not magic pills and the best results are seen with medication in conjunction with counseling. Also, a pediatrician is not qualified to treat childhood disorders so I highly recommend that you have your child reassessed by a pediatric neurologist and a child phychiatrist. Whether you choose to medicate or not is a personal decision but it is always wise to make these decisions in collaboration with a specialsit in the field. Good luck and keep us posted.clonidine is use for high blood pressure normally, it is also used to help quit smoking so he most likly will not have any effects of withdrawal from this (it is used to help wiht the withdrawal symptoms form smoking)He'll most likely go through withdrawal from the straterra, Concerta leaves the body the same day so he can stop that without a problem. No experience with clonidine so not sure how that works

Hi.  My name is Teresa.  My son is a bit older than yours but I have a younger boy, age 4, who is currently being treated also.

From experience and from the info given to me from my 9 year olds councelor, the STRATERRA is not the wander drug it is made out to be.  My pediatrician is not all that impressed either.  When my 9 year old was using it to try to supliment the "night angers"...and to try to help through the morning transition for school, he got mean.  Yelling all the time, calling names, striking out to hit us.

I did some research on the straterra and that is one of the side effects.  The only thing so far I have had any luck with is the Adderall.  I gets him through the school day and if you are lucky enough to have a pediatrician wiling to split the dosage up thru the day that might help you.

Next time you get your Straterra refilled, read the side effects.  Sounds like you are going through the same exact thing I did.  The temper subsided almost instantly after I took him off.  Now I just have the typical 9 year old "I hate everything" tempers  But I am convinced every boy goes thru the i hate mom thing

Do let me know what your pediatrician does to help you.  Also .. my older sons councelor told us pretty much that my younger one of 4 wont comprehend the counceling sessions yet.  Not sure what age they do.

I also didnt notice any withdrawl from the Straterra.  Just a nicer out look from son, but see what your pediatrician says.  and research the side effects.  It differs from one child to the next but it hit mine hard with pretty near every one listd on the bottle

NAE NAE....i hear you say you don't want your child to go to counseling.  i understand it is time consuming and can get expensive, but in reality, it's the best thing you can do for your child.  A lot of the behavior problems our children have can benefit from behavior modification techniques you can learn in counseling....and it is good for your child to have someone to discuss his feelings with.  i would suggest you give it a try...it really is an important part of the treatment our kids need.
i have no health insurance for my son at the moment, but i was able to find an agency that provides counseling on a sliding fee scale, based on your ability to pay.  My son starts tomorrow.  i'd encourage you to look into it.

Hang in there....things are tough right now, but they can get better.

Good luck and stay strong~

I have to agree with Jack'smom on this one. My daughter benefits greatly from counseling! She, too, was once on Straterra & it changed her into a mean, moody, angry girl who I did not like much. Needless to say, we took her off of it & currently are going the supplement routine (although we do use clonodine at night to help her sleep). Of course, my daughter is a little older than your son. Shes 10. The counseling is helping her to focus, get better organized, and deal with her temper.  We do not have a ton of money, but I called my insurance rep & they helped me find a good, affordable therapist who is within traveling distance. AND my daughter actually enjoys going! The therapist was going to cut her down to every other week, but my daughter pleaded to keep going weekly.

I am going to check into food senstivities or allergies which are linked into behavior issues. Then counseling. My husband/brother in law have food issues. Not everyone believes in this ,but I do seen first hand with our son.rshn

Ins. covers only half after 1,000.- 2,000. can't afford it.

Mental health 82.00 per month can't afford either.  Not til full pschological   evaluation. We live pay check to pay check. If I go to work no one to take him. My husband works at least 10 hr. days.usually more.

RSHN38406.3809490741No longer see a pediatric Dr. Left the state. Strattera has worked for us well. We are all different a person can have more than 1  disorder which I know our son does.rshn
