Melatonin for help with intuniv?

My son 5 1/2 has been taking intuniv for 4 weeks is now on 2 mg with mixed results.  We changed the time we give it to him from a.m. to p.m. 5 pm to help mitigate sleepyness during the day.  Now he is not so sleepy during the day but is also up once to go to the bathroom and then gets up between 5 and 7 a.m.  I am wondering if melatonin might help him get a better night's sleep.

He is also more iritable and I think it is because he is just not sleeping well.  Has anyone incorporated melatonin effectively?

My son took Melatonin prior to starting Tenex/Intuniv.  He no longer needs it regularly, but asks for it once a week or so when he's feeling particularly worked up.

It doesn't seem to cause a problem mixing the two.... but then again I'm able to check his blood pressure, etc myself.

In other words, I wouldn't try mixing meds without at least giving your doctor a heads-up.  Melatonin may be "natural", but it's still medication.

My son's doctor has had my son on Melatonin for a while now.  I don't think there is a problem taking it with other meds.  I can tell you it's ok with Adderall, Ritalin, and Strattera because that's what my son has taken.  The regular Melatonin helps the child fall asleep.  If your son also has problems staying asleep then you may want to look into the long acting/time released Melatonin for all night coverage. If you try melatonin, make sure you get a sustained release version.  That might help him get through the night.
