sprained ankle= insanity!
I can related. My daughter had a badly sprained foot last June. I was thankful that she only used crutches for a couple of days. The walking boot they put her in was way better than crutches and an ace wrap. We've been really lucky over the years in the injury department, but DS (11) sprained his ankle this past weekend playing indoor soccer. Of course it only hurt bad enough to keep him down for a couple days, but the doc said no walking on it for a week and no sports/running around for a minimum of two weeks. After that he's supposed to "take it easy" for a couple more. Ha- ha. I think I'm going to lose my mind before then.
Right now he is bouncing off the walls despite being unable to put any weight on the foot. The crutches have been randomly and wildly swinging though the air. Someone or something is going to end up broken.
We are so gonna end up back in the ER. . . .
OMG, my son did the same thing three days before Christmas. We didn't even try crutches, as he is only 6yrs. I kept him calm for ONE afternoon. After that, it was hopeless. Odd thing, he decided the easiest way was to HOP everywhere. Have you thought about this? I know 11 is a little old for games like this, but it is good for coordination, and would get rid of the crutch danger. The doc would not put a walking boot on my DS, but that might be the answer. The doc just told me if I wanted something other than a wrap, I had to buy it myself. But, I know the structure of the ankle isn't as developed at 6 as it is at 11, so you might be able to get the doc to give you the boot.
