Adderall for a 40 year old | ADHD Information

Just starting Adderall for the first time EVER.  What is the usual dosage to start with?  Dr. started me on 5 mg. and I'm thinking "what?"   Can that even make a dent?  Dr. said I should notice a difference "pretty soon" if it was going to work.  But I'm reading on these posts that it can take up to weeks.  What's the real scoop?  Also, should I feel like someone's hands are around my throat?  (can't swallow)  Dry mouth is one thing....but, come on!  Please help, fellow Adderall people of the world. :)
The real scoop is.... yeah, 5 mg is tiny.

You should experience effects (and side effects),
within the first hour, lasting 4-6 hours.

Dry mouth should subside in a couple-three
weeks, if you can stand it that long (yours
sounds severe)

So how do you know when to move up to the next mg.?  Do I have to go thru a month before I decide?  I've been drinking tons of water, which is helping.  But I want to figure out if this med is going to help at all, and I don't want to spend forever creeping up the mg. scale.  How long before I should go higher? any ideas?
Good questions.... to ask your doctor!

I was told, when first starting, to take
one 10 mg tablet in a.m.   Doctor told
me that if I felt the need to, to take
another in the afternoon.   That's how
I started.  We finally settled (after about
a month) on 20 mg XR in a.m., 20 mg. in
p.m.

Everyone's different... if you're lucky
and found a good doctor, you should
be able to find a med and dose that
works for you.  Unless you're one of the
20% that the stims don't seem to help.
