Can Ritalin make you tired?I would say that they are not on the correct dose, it takes a little bit to get the correct dose when first starteing the medication, please makesure you follow up with your Dr.
Actually, he's on 10 mgs. He weighs 47 pounds, I think. This was his first day on 10 mgs. Yesterday he had 5mgs. His teacher said he seemed better on that amount, but it took a while to kick in. my doctor told me if he starts to act withdrawn and lathargic that his dose is to high my son was on 10 mg and is now back down to 5 mg. and he is 6 yrs. old and weights 49.5 lbs.I agree that it might be too high of a dose. Some other possible reasons ---- Usually the first two weeks are when the side effects of any med are visible and after that they disappear so it could be that his body is just adjusting to the medication. Also if your child had a healthy appetite before the meds but now eats very little (common side effect) then he could definately get lethargic and cranky from the lack of food. Just because our minds or stomachs don't feel the need to eat doesn't mean the body doesn't still need food to fuel it. Remember most stimulants were originally used as diet pills so feeling hungry and actually needing food are two seperate issues. my daughter is 6 yrs. old and she is on ritalin la and she seems very withdrawn when she is on 20mg and she just looks very tired. She doesn't act herself at all so i dropped her down to 10mg and she's bouncing off the walls so i don't know what to do. I am waiting for her dr. to get back to me cause i want to change meds. This one is not working for us. How many mg is your son on? Maybe its too high.Just started my 7-year old on Ritalin LA, after trying some other meds. He's complaining of drowsiness and lethargy. Does this go away? |
