update from amicrazy | ADHD Information
Well, I initially posted nov/dec, scared and anxious for my 9 year old to receive help. We saw the psychologist, went through all the tests, and he came back low borderline ADD. Our ped suggested meds. My son as been on vyvanse for one week and we already noticed the difference in his school work and attitude towards homework. The only side effects are less of a desire to snack, and at night his ears get very hot and he gets a headache. We took a med vacation over the weekend, because he does not get up early enough to take them. I was terrified to give him the meds and was scared of side effects, but after seeing his grades level off; I am happy. Not a big sign of relief, but a little one.
Are you happy with the dosage, they usually start them low. is he ok with the side effects? Any positive signs are awesome. but if the side effects are aren't healthy, then a change is needed. Sometimes just the dose!
I am glad you posted an update. Another great mom!! Who is NOT crazy!!
The doc put him on the lowest dosage. I was worried about the lack of eating during the day, but he is a "healthy" weighted kid. A cold cloth at night seemed to help the hot ears. I am pleased so far. We have a follow-up with the doctor 3 weeks into the meds to see how they work. Will let you all know the progress. Thanks for listening (reading)I have been following this thread, and just want to reiterate how great it is
not to be alone in this. I too had bad dreams about the meds- one woke me
up from a dead sleep, and bothered me for days!- but it is normal anxiety.
Keep in mind that many of these stimulants are some the MOST studied, and
trled out there. they truly are safe, and assuming the side effects are none or
small, they can be life changing for a child. My son is having dramatic
improvements in school after just a few weeks, and I'm hopeful he'll
continue to get more out of school now that that he has medication to help
him...Good luck!Good luck to you too!
