Intuniv & Vyvanse

My son has been taking 1mg dose of intuniv for 3 weeks and we've seen great improvement in his mood but none in his focusing ability at school... so we've decided to give a stimulant a try.  Before we found intuniv we'd tried vyvanse but my son coughed for two days straight before we decided to try something else but decided to give it another try now ... He had 1/2 dose of 20mg pill mixed in water on saturday and sunday and we saw no ill effects so sent him off to school with the same.

Just wondering if anyone else has paired these two drugs and what your opinion is ... did you see an improvement at school?

My son is 8 and aspergers...

Thanks,
Rachel

We did this combo - I think it makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately, for us the Intuniv even at 1 mg made her too tired, so we stopped. But it did seem to smooth out some of the ill effects of the stimulant for her.

Good luck and keep us posted!

She was tired even with the vyvanse added?  that's too bad ... is she a little one?
my son is a chubby 90lb 8 yr old and i'm glad that we're still seeing positive effects on the 1mg dose ...

doc says to go to 20mg on the vyvanse tomorrow  and that we should see improvements in a week.

Just curious why it's beneficial to the pair the two? Is it just if one is causing
side effects? Or are there benefits in general to using both? My son recently
on Focalin, been going well...just curious.
Thanks!in our case - the intuniv is great at dealing with emotional outbursts and frustration tolerance -- so he's better behaved and a bit more flexible but still seeing a lot of distractibility and lack of focus in the classroom... Am told by many that vyvanse or other similar stimulant med can make a spectrum child appear angry and frustrated so I'm hoping that the combination will treat focus and keep him cool.
