Since Intuniv is the long acting form of guanfacine you shouldn't notice any difference. I think that's why you can start off at the same dosage-2mg without working up to it. I say "shouldn't" because technically they are the same drug so it should be a smooth transition but that may not be the case. But some people on this board have talked about how Tenex/guanfacine worked but Intuniv didn't so there must be some differece in the way it's made. The good news is that you can always go back to the guanfacine if the Intuniv doesn't work out. Good luck!
My son is currently on 2 mg (1 mg in a.m./1 mg in pm) of guanfacine for tics and to help ease the rebound of his concert (45 mg) and his doc just switched him to 2mg of intuniv so that we would only have to take it once a day. I just picked up the script...I see everyone talkiing about increasing the dosage slowly and was wondering if anyone started on 2mg and what was the outcome. My doc also said to give it to him at night, but I was hoping it would help him get to sleep better...from the site here it seems it makes them sleepy during the day..which I don't want! Any advice would be appreicated.
Thanks...Mars
