meds when sick?

Just wondering if you give meds when your child is sick? Doc said it's fine,
and that I can give motrin with the meds too if he has a fever. Just
wondering what others have heard from their docs or experinenced with
this?
Thanks!

We do. Every day, no days off of meds. They are that needed.

If he throws them up, then he throws them up. If he is throwing up early morning before meds, the no.

thanks Bethann!
i did give them today, though I was worried. he just seems a litttle more
wiped out as a result, but its probably best because he's actually resting and
not jumping around! have you ever had a problem giving him other
medicine while on his meds? Motrin, cough medicine, etc?Yes, actually, I have given him amoxacillian, when prescribed. he has had both cough/cold & tylenol as well for fevers, sore throats and coughs. he has been sick off and on this year and his missed more days of school than before. tough year!! ok...and never any issues combining any of them with the ADHD meds? [/QUOTE] We are having a TERRIBLE year for illnesses too. My DD missed all last week and has not gone back to school yet this week and consequently had to be dropped from her school musical which begins this week. It is horrible.
Sorry, I don't mean to high-jack this thread, but I just had to vent.
My DD isn't on meds for ADHD but does take allergy and asthma meds regularly. I don't give her her usual supplements if she has an upset stomach, only what she has to take--the asthma and allergy meds.

No, no issues with combing his adhd meds with the cough, cold, flu, etc meds.

And yeah what a year!! He goes back to school, unprepared for make-up tests since missing the classroom lectures, only to fail the test - and this is an A student in the class.

At least I know we aren't alone. and you know how they don't want them at school so they do not  spread the germs.

But tell me, why do they send homework home expecting the students to do it when they are sick? That makes no sense. The last thing a child wants to do when they are sick is homework. And they don't do a good job at it!!

It depends on how sick my son is whether I give him meds or not.  If he's sick enough for it to be effecting his activity level (laying on the couch, playing quietly) then I don't give adhd meds.  My thinking is that being sick effects the appetite enough without the help of his focalin xr, and he needs to be eating at least a little to help get him healthy.  However, if he's bouncing off the walls, but still contagious, he gets his meds.

I've never had a problem with adhd meds interfering/reacting with anything I've given him for illness.
