Vyvanse feedback PLEASE! | ADHD Information

I don't have any personal experience with either drug but I do have experience with the long acting vs. the short acting meds.  If your son is having ups and downs on the short acting form of stimulant then it seems reasonable to try a long acting type.   The key to making a stimulant work is keeping the child as steady as possible with not sharp ups or downs.  In theory the long acting types of meds make the transitions smoother.  Another option is to add something like Tenex which is an "24 hour" medication and helps keep all day smooth whether their on the short or long acting. Thanks and yes it dose look like ups and down are the issue. he's definitely
getting the benefits so we want to find the right stim. Went to get
prescription to try Vyvanse and just learned insurance needs pre-
authorization. Now will have to wait to until Tues to even try and get
answers. was really hoping to get this new ball rolling during the school
break...ugh.I posted on the Medication forum but got no responses. Could anyone share
experiences with this medication? Doc just prescribed it after determining
my son is senstive to ups and downs of Focalin. He's 5 1/2 and I'm torn
about him being on something that lasts all day. Also, worried about the not
eating or sleeping on this particular drug. Would love to know how others
found it.....THANKS!I have no experience with it, sorry. Have you googled it? thanks Bethann! I recall a fe people here discussing it , so hoping they
would jump in and remind me. I did got o rxlist.com and found user
reviews. Most I have to say were positive, but the few bad ones scared me.
Really torn about putting him through something new....ugh.

Believe me I understand. At times I felt like a "mad scientist" playing with his dose.

Our psychopharm always said, "lets try it, we will never know unless we do"

So I always hear that when wondering if my son needs an increase or if he needs

We didn't start until he was almost 7, and with your DS being 5 1/2, I understand even more!!

I can only suppport what you do but remember what my psychopharm says!!

Let me know how you do!!

Keeping in mind that every child acts differently to different meds, I have to say we had a horrible experience with Vyvnase.   We changed from Concerta because my daughter was having mood issues that the Concerta seemed to compound.  The Vyvanse made her very OCD--all she wanted to do was put little pebbles into water bottles.  At school she would scrounge around on the floor looking for the leads from mechanical pencils.  When we changed from Vyvnase the OCDness went away.

I have heard and read that other children really respond well to Vyvnase, so it all depends.  Good luck.
