Logan's mom thank you.
I honestly do not "like" having to do that. I really felt bad and it was very early in the morning. No one was around.
There are too many people here who want to be. Many are lurking and never posting, just reading to see find help for their child. I don't want them to end up believing what that other person was posting and even claimed at one point to be a doctor!
Thank you for the support!
Ditto what Kathleen said! AS IF we haven't tried the alternatives, TROLL!!
I used to be active in a infertility newsgroups and we had some lovely trolls. Gosh, if I only knew that relaxing and perhaps standing on my head after doing the baby dance would get me preggers oh so easily then I wouldn't have suffered 5 yrs of infertilty pain!
Thought I would jump in here for a minute to add my two cents worth, even though I see SaveChildren and Bethann have been having quite a discussion on several of the posts! First point....I could be wrong, but the profile pic for SaveChildren looks very familiar, could it have been "borrowed" from one of the many books I have read on alternative medicines, or perhaps a website??? Secondly, and most important.... I am wondering if you, SaveChildren, think we: 1. are uneducated, 2. lazy, 3. don't care about our kids, 4. just want to take the easy way out, 5. like medicating our kids???? I, for one, have spent the past two years trying every alternative method under the sun including behavior therapy, special diets (Feingold, GFCF), supplements, DAN doctors, and so on to the tune of thousands of dollars and untold hours and days of my time. So your advice to one of the members here to "just watch the sugar and chocolate, play games, and partake in light exercize" trivializes what so many of us have gone through that it is insulting. Our decision to give our son medicine for his ADHD was not an easy one, and the stigma attached to ADHD medication compounded this decision. But for us, it was the right one. Our son is happy now, does well in school, isn't "the bad boy in class" as he and the other kids used to refer to him, and has very minimal and manageable side effects. So, please don't preach to us...we've heard it all before.
It really upsets me what occurred this morning. How dare something come to our very open, honest, caring boards and DIS us!
I am also concerned for our "newbies" who might fall prey to this "person" or as he said, "doctor" and believe that that person sincerely wants to offer them help while they are still searching.
That is an example of a troll.
Many of us, including myself, have learned so much from other members. I am very open and honest of the struggles that we have had with our wonderful ADHD son. And I share them. I am here to offer help, try to help others not feel alone with this, as I did.
There is still an negative ADHD stigma in society. This board is very precious to me, and I feel that it is to others.
I am glad that Kathleen0515 recognized that person from "elsewhere" - it was obvious that that person wasn't here to seek or offer help. That person was playing a game for their own entertainment. Very sick.
OMG!!!! I'm busy all day and don't have time to log on and when I do *WHAM* What a bees nest!
All I have to say is "Thank you Kathleen0515 and Bethann!" Well said! Some people are just too clueless for words...so I'm glad someone found some appropriate words!
Hi Cherylann,
I have no idea about your son's med dosage, but we often use melatonin to get my ds to sleep. It's a natural supplement and get it at the health food store. It's a liquid that I just squirt one dropperful in his mouth. I first heard about it from the mom of an autistic boy who would roam the house at night.
Best wishes...
I am new to the forum. My son is 8yrs old and in 2nd grade. He was recently diagnosed with ADHD in December 2009. There was some concern with his first grade teacher last year that maybe my son had ADHD but the pediatrician said if he was learning we should let him be. Now with the second grade teacher at conference she mentioned all the same behaviors as last year. We pursued the conners rating scale with the teacher and the pediatrician and we started ritalin. First we attempted 10mg in a.m. and after school to see if it helped. It did. The pediatrician suggested then to try an extended release. Concert 36mg was introduced. Too strong for my son.We reduced the dose to 27mg and he started to become very moody and crabby. We then decided to go back to the 10mg and since my son was on the extended release he has had a lot of problems going to bed to sleep. My husband and I are supposed to give our son the 10mg 3x per day, but we are leary about it being too much. We have only been giving it to him in the a.m. We are now going to give it to him after school and see how it goes. Has anyone experienced their child on ADHD meds having trouble falling asleep? Does anyone go to a psychologist along with the medication to help them deal with their childs ADHD? Has anyone heard of CHADD? Thank you for your input!Yes, yes...and yes. Not sure I have advice for the trouble falling asleep, there are some other threads that talk about this. I simply read to my son for about 45 minutes. It takes time, but I have found that is the best "sleep aid". The more boring and scientific the better, but he also enjoys adventure stories.Trouble sleeping is a very common side effect of the stimulant drugs- at least at first. Many times it will get better after a couple of weeks when the body adjusts. If it doesn't get better then there are other things that can help.
My son takes Melatonin (as recommend by the pyschiatrist) before bed. It's an over-the-counter supplement and it helps him slow down and get drowsy before bed. I'd ask the doc about it. There are also other medications that can be prescribed along with stimulants to help with the side effects. Tenex is one of them and usually helps with the sleep issues (among other things). Just try not to discount a medication simply because of the sleep issues if you haven't tried these other things first. You could pass up the one med that can help you!
Until a few months ago, we had an active chapter of CHADD here and we had monthly meetings. It's an organization for families dealing with ADHD and our monthly meetings were great! Unfortunately, the leader of the chapter quit to go on permenant maternity leave and no one took over for her.
If you have a local chapter, it may be something worth looking into.
You need to leave. You could be doing more harm than good. These are just your "opinions" and it doesn't even mean that they are accurate.
GO!
