Support Groups | ADHD Information

I am new to this site and the ADD world.  Need some advice on how to move forward.   I am seeing a counselor who I like in addition to taking the stimulant.

I need some feedback on support groups.

How did you find them?

Were they moderated by a senior member?

Any warnings or precautions?

Thx

ditto on all John  D said.

and 12 step groups can be very helpful, especially codepencdence anpnymous and large opne meetings of aa...closed metg are for alcoholics only.... YOu may qualifiy for alanon.  Most groups are not interested in hearing you talk of adhd and some mey be hostile to it.; they can be a gr eat resource anyway to see how folks with a dificult problem change habits.  more detalis are in the favorite book Delivered from Distraction by hallowelll/ ratey.  it hsa a whole chapter on 12 step groups.

Try Googling around, you might find one in your area that way.... or, call an association in your state serving adults/kids with ADD or learning disabilities..like a Learning Disabilities Association (there's a national LDA with chapters in most states).    From what I've heard, each support group is set up a little differently.

We didn't have any support groups going on in my state, so I joined an organization and helped start one.  We were a small, informal group, electing our own chair, and met every month or so.  It was very worthwhile, though a group of folks, all with ADD, getting together to talk can lead to some glitches (like some people talking too much..) unless you have good ground rules and follow them!
