I have taken ritalin off and on for about seven years. My doctor just let me know that she wants me to try strattera, and I am not sure if I want this. I have done well on the ritalin and I am wondering if the strattera will even work. Let me know what you take and how you like it and how you don't.

My son was on concerta 18mg. worked great first yr., 27mg. at 1 and half year. To strong because of his weight.Tried Stattera for a mnth. It was like he didn't even take his meds. in the morning.I was diagnosed recently at age 38. I began taking Strattera 40 mg and it helps me focus but I am so tired so the doc put me on Ritalin in addition to the strattera. I am taking 10 mg ritalin twice a day. I do not know if that is considered a lot or not. It helps somewhat but I am still hypo (tired). I would like to know about ritalin. Strattera for me had some side effects at first like nausea. I take it with food. That is the only real side effect exept the tiredness. Please tell me about Ritalin. What is the difference between Ritalin and Concerta and Adderal?Ritalin and Concerta are basically the same chemical compound, "methylphenidate". I don't know about Straterra.
Ritalin makes me more tired when I haven't eaten properly and it makes me more tired when doing tasks...It is like I need longer time to calm down after doing things...
I am on Ritalin 3 times 10 mg a day...Sometimes it seems like it does not work at all and sometimes I feel very fidgety on it. But I still can't do one task at a time...I am using it for like 50 days now. Ritalin can enhance depressive feelings too. And I need more sleep since I started using it.

My friends son who is aged 7 has ADHD and been on numerous medications. His parents have had a very difficult time in getting him to take his medications. He would always fight it. They tried crushing the Ritalin and adding to apple sauce but it made it taste very bad. Also, he tried the capsules and sprinkling the capsule on his apple sauce. This created lots of challenges with us spilling some of the ingredients. His doctor put him on Methylin Chewable Table which he said it was the first product for ADHD to be available for the disorder. You can visit the website at methylin4kids.com. They give lots of good information. It is available in 2.5mg , 5mg, 10mg in the chewable dose. It is available in a great tasting grape flavor.
