Seeing two PsychMD’s at once? | ADHD Information

Im seeing a psychologist and a psychatrist now, but i have an appointment with another psychatrist on friday... should i go and not tell her about the other one im seeing? or tell her.. im worried about being ethical. but im also worried about creating the view that im doctor shopping.. which maybe i am sorta because i want the right medicine at the right dose, and be able to communicate when needed..

Hi Circus Monkey, I think these days you have to "doc shop". From what you wrote, you don't feel your currant docs are really doing the job. My first doc was just a writer and even in the same room, communication was impossible. So lord forbid I had a problem on his day off!

The doc I have now, well I actually see his nurse, after I had my evaluation, and she is very "available" (even a day before Christmas). She sees me every month, and always takes the time to ask me how things are in general, as well as asking me if I think the meds are still ok. It took a while to get them almost right and she was VERY patient!

I would say NOT seeing this other doc wouldn't be fair to YOU. Communication and the right meds are the key in treatment. You should defienetly tell her you are seeing another doc and explain why. If she's the right doc for you, she'll understand and work with you. By not telling, she may think you were intending to get meds from both her and the other doc.

The only problem you may run into, is that the pharmacy may "rat on you" when they see another docs name on the scripts. That happened to me, but since the second doc knew about the first, it was quickly taken care of. Oh one other thing, just make sure if you have any unfilled scripts from the first doc(if you stay with the next one), shred them! B/c if they were ever filled, red flags would go up and you could be labled an abuser. I happened to someone I knew with of all things, birth control pills!

GOOD LUCK & KEEP US POSTED

You can and should shop around for doctors just like you would for anything else. You need to find someone that will be the must help to you not worry about loyalty to a certain doctor. Just make sure you decide on one doctor only, it's impossible to get real help not to mention a possible danger to yourself by seeing two doctors for the same problem.
