Hello everyone I am glad I found this forum as I am stumped by some behaviors. I adopted my nephews who are now 6 & 8. They were both drug & alcohol exposed during pregnancy and my husband & I new there would be issues. My 8 year old is on metadate and the six year old is on adderal. They couldn't be any different from each other and I am blessed to have them. Recently the 8 year old has started urinating on his bedroom floor and laundry room, including the cat's litterbox. He has really come a long way in the past year. I used to get daily phone calls from school. Now a note once in a while from the teacher. I really don't get the whole peeing thing. Any suggestions?
Thanks

I wish I had a suggestion for you Pinnlady. Do you think the medication could explain it? How long has he been on his med and dosage?

Does it happen only in your home and these places, nothing in school or outside the home?

My only experience with peeing issues was when my son would "hyperfocus" while playing video games on the computer. He wouldn't get up and pee so he would pee in his pants. Then he would jump up and run. He has also pee'd while sleeping at night, but very rarely. Although it still happens every blue moon or so. My son is 12.

You have to be acknowledged for what you and your husband are doing for these two young boys. THey will now have the life that they deserve because of you both. Please enjoy them!

I mentioned on a previous post that my 6 yro son would do the same thing. He would even go so far as to pee in containers in his room, so that I wouldn't find it on the floor (like toy buckets). These were never a treat to find later.

I think part of his problem was that he didn't want to stop the activity he was involved with. Also, he has severe anxiety about dark places, and the upstairs bathroom has no windows. I have night-lights everywhere, but it was still too dark for him. He also has some fears about toilets in general, especially the flushing.

I don't have an answer for you, because he eventually stopped doing it on his own. Also, this all occurred before he was ever medicated, but I have heard that bladder issues can be a side-effect of some meds as Bethann mentioned.

Potty training was very difficult for my son, and he does still have an occasional accident. I don't worry about it too much, but I SURE am glad he isn't peeing all over the place anymore. I wish you the best of luck in figuring this out and applaud you for the all that you are doing for these boys!!Thanks. I have talked to him and let him know it's ok to be angry about his birth mom. He and his brother can't understand why she gave them up and had 2 more babies after. I would be po'd too. He's not very expressive so I am thinking therapy again for a while. Really, peeing on the floor is nothing compared to the behaviors before medication.

Pinnlady,

As upsetting as it must be to these precious and innocent boys, they are very lucky. Because they have YOU and your husband!

I worry about the two children who were born after these two boys.

Are they safe? Has the mother stopped using drugs? Or has she attempted to destroy two more innocent lives?

Thank goodness for people like you in the world. And isn't it amazing how many grandparents are raising their grandchildren.

Please keep me posted on how things are going with your two boys, as well as their siblings. I can only worry.
