Ritalin and heart palpitations? | ADHD Information

My son has been on Ritalin for a while and I haven't noticed a racing heartbeat but he's pretty young.  I don't know if he would notice or be able to describe it to me.  The doc checks his pulse when we go for appointments and it has been good so far.  I think a fast hearbeat can be a side effect of stimulants.  I'd let the doc know. It may be something that will go away with time or it may need to be dealt with by adjusting the medication.

My daughter is taking 10mg short acting Ritalin in am and 10mg after school.  She does not take it on days off or weekends.  Lately she has been complaining of her heart racing.  Has this happened to anyone else?
