great tip mamatothestars

Ok,
I need someone to respond. My 2 ADHD kids are at my mom's
house and my 12 yr old is on Ritalin and takes 15 mg tabs
and my almost 4 yr old take 2 tabs or 2 mg of Intuniv. Well
my mom gave my 4yr old my sons meds 20mg. It was taken 2
hrs ago and she is acting fine and quite alert, but what
should we do? This is the meds we were planning on
switching her to, but not this high of a dose.
I would call the poison control center, even if she seems fine. I called one time because my son ate a bunch of side-walk chalk. Not a deadly reason, but they are very helpful and caring.

The number is: 1-800-222-1222

Even if it's not an OD thing, it's a good idea to call a professional. Does your doctor have an emergency line? I spoke with our Dr. Our Pharmacist, and poison control.
They have all said that as long as she is healthy she
should be fine. It might raise her heart rate a bit, but
since she is a health child she should have no problem.
They also said she may be a little hyper, but she is not.
We are watching her closely and making sue grandma realizes
that you always read the bottle before giving medication.I'm so glad to hear it isn't an emergency! At least now you know that she can switch meds. Apparently they don't like kids under 6 to take Ritalin. What do you think the doc will say now? Guess you'll have to wait a few years, huh?

I should have guessed that you had already talked to the professionals. I didn't mean to imply that you hadn't, your message just sounded so desperate. I like being proved wrong like that!! Hope the rest of your day goes smoothly. OneOrTheOther,
No worries I did not take any offence, I just panicked. At
least we know she tolerates ritalin. Seeing how it is a
med at Walmart and the rest of my fa,ily ADHDers on on it
it seems a good choice, at a much lower dose of course.
Thank you for your response I am so grateful to this board
for its support.

What a scare!  I'm glad everyone's OK!  Here's what I do when I have a babysitter or send my son to his grandparents' house.  Maybe it will help your  mom.  I make individual ziploc  bags with my son's name, the time he is supposed  to take the dosage,  the name and mg. of the medicine, and what it looks like.  For example:

7:00 am
Adderall, 5 mg, round blue tablet
Risperdal, .0.25 mg, round white tablet

Hope this helps!
