Testing for ADHD in autistic child | ADHD Information
When the teacher is looking at the form to fill out, she needs to look at behaviors, not determine if they are caused by autism or ADHD. Once you determine what behaviors you child is having problems with, then the psychiatrist can help you determine the next step.
I'm back.... after a super-duper, LONNNNGGG break!
We had a rough couple of months with both of my boys...
although my younger son seems to be coming out of his
shell a bit more. He was frought with some horrible
anxiety but seems to be a lot better. He's got an above-
average intelligence (not gifted, but ADHD may be
lowering the score a bit, but he's definitely very
smart).
The issues with my older son, also seem to be resolving
now that we've got the medication issue worked out as
well as a pretty good routine down for sleep.
The remaining issue with older son is: ADHD-ishness.
He can usually not sit and watch a whole movie (he used
to be able to), is having a very hard time completing his
schoolwork (used to get it done with no prompts!), and
just seems constantly on the go, without being hyper. The
psychiatrist we saw (he specializes in pediatric
psychopharmacology) wants to do a Vanderbilt assessment
for ADHD.
How will that work? How are we supposed to differentiate
between the Autism and the possible ADHD? I really trust
this psych, but when I told his teacher about this, she's
like "how are we going to be able to fill it out?". I'm
curious as well.
Any ideas?
