Strange Addera side effects | ADHD Information

Thank you for sharing your experience too.  The Focalin seems t be working much better too.  His teachers report that his chewing and disruptive behavior has lessened in this past week  I think he has anxiety because of the teachers not following hi s504 plan which had a accommodation to communicate daily and report times of any issues. They had not and we were left in the dark that these behaviors could have stemmed from the medication.

My 9 year old DS just stopped his Adderal 25 mg and is now only on Focalin 10 mg 3 times per day.  He had begun putting things in his mouth, chewing pencils up, eating paper, collecting little bits of things.  He had not done any of this before the Adderal XR.  He had an increase right before Christmas and the issues seemed to get worse.  This happens predominately at school and not so much at home. 

Anyone else experience any strange side effects?
In our case it wasn't from Adderal, but my ds does this too. He has to use pens at school now, because he went through 60 pencils in the first month of school. Doing laundry is always exciting! Never know what you're gonna find in those pockets. This kind of thing doesn't happen so much at home, but I think it is a nervous habit. And school can be stressful. The chewing on his clothing has gotten better, but most of his sleeves/collars are already ruined.

The severity of this did seem to relate to his meds, though. When the straterra started to make his anxiety/moods worse...then these odd habits also got worse. I don't know if stims would have aggravated this, as he reacted so badly we never had long-term experience with them, but it probably would.

In my son's case these "strange side effects" weren't due to the meds, but exasperated by them. But, that might not be true for your son? I just wanted to let you know how it was for us.
