thank you for the encouragment I also see a difference as my DS is 11.5 and in 6th grade middle school he is youngest in the classes but is brilliant. he is in all honors with great grades. whoo hoo! let's hope this continues. again thank you

Thanks so much for the words of encouragement!   My little guy is only 5 so we have a long way to go even though things are sooooooo much better now with medication!  It's nice to hear what it's like down the road...

Hi! I haven't been here in a while because of computer issues and other junk, but I just lifted my head today and realized my little monkey (not so little anymore!) is two-thirds through 6th grade and guess what?  The first year of junior high/middle school has gone really well!  He got the teacher we were dreading, but who has actually been really great. He's willing to meet with us when we need it and be somewhat flexible for our guy. Our son has made all A's and one B so far, largely because we really worked to keep on top of procedures and rules that exist in middle school. Both of his main teachers commented at the last conferences about how mature he's becoming since the beginning of the shcool year (which our pysch tells us can happen at around 11 or 15).

So as I read through the posts by those of you who are just starting this roller-coaster of ADHD and my heart is breaking for you, I just want to say...it gets better! All the pain and hard work and stressful advocating bear fruit as your child blooms into a young adult. Hang in there!

We are actually working to have our oldest diagnosed right now, as we realize that we missed his AD(noH)D growing up. He's seriously struggling in college ("Mom, I sit in class and realize that a half an hour has passed and I can't remember what the professor said.") and failing in a way that was never an issue for him before. I know, though, that when he gets the help he needs, things will be better. We just have to keep working.

Good luck to you all!

Thanks for the update and supportive postYour kind words mean a lot. Thank you!
