Help Please | ADHD Information
First of all, welcome to our groups.
You say you can't ask your parents for help because of your siblings but you are one of their children. Most decent parents want to help ALL their children. The worst they can say is no. However, I can understand your reservation and possible anxiety of getting that answer. :) I don't share my ADHD stuff with my parents because I don't want all the inquiries and nosiness. Try not to assume what your parents can or can't handle. But if you feel uncomfortable telling them, I understand. You have to do what's best for you.
Congratulations on going to college. Try not to compare yourself to your friends. Everyone learns at a different pace and for some people, it takes longer to complete assignments than others. As long as you're doing the assignment correctly and turn it in on time, who cares how long it takes you? I had terrible test anxiety when I was in college. Had I had a proper diagnosis, I might have been able to ask for alternate testing. You might want to share your struggles with your professors. Most professors are compassionate these days. If you have a question about homework, can you email the instructor instead of that face to face confrontation? Or at least ask them after class so you don't feel you have all eyes on you if you ask during class. And also remember that if you have a question, chances are good that someone else in the class has the same question and is also afraid to ask. :) Once you get over those initial anxieties, you ability to ask the next time is much greater - this all contributes to overall success in your studies. :)
Hang in there and keep reading and writing here. We will support you. :)
sdsdafeggyolkes40588.6399421296Hi, I hope you started to move toward some help. It sounds like you were heading in the right direction. To be honest, I avoided going to college because if the ADD-I. I am 47 now and diagnosed 1 month ago. I kind of knew I had the problem, but never new what it was. I have been very fortunate with my career, in spite of the ADD. I finally had to get help now because my job has changed over the years and I can't pay attention and follow through on long term projects.
I wish I had done something a lot sooner!
If an RX is a concern, you should look at the many books on the subject. There are a lot of organizational tips that can help, but for many, one of the drugs out there can help.
I started on Concerta. I would have to say I am not sure if the clarity. is worth the feeling I have on the drug. I am still looking for my solution .
Good Luck to You!
