Cardiomyopathy | ADHD Information
I know there are a lot of anti-medication sites out
there, mostly funded
by those against mental illness or trying to promote homeopathic
treatments.   What I am concerned about slightly, and I am one to obsess
about my health anyway, is the actual reputable reports of healthy
individuals developing cardiomyopathy, heart wall changes or an enlarged
heart. I really need my medicine to function, but being in my 40's and
have three young children, I wonder if I am trading one illness (ADHD) for
heart disease or congestive heart failure. Of course, we don't know the
history of some of the people who developed this and some studies
suggest they may have undiagnosed structural problems. However, the
scary thing is that cardiomyopathy doesn't seem to always be detected by
conventional EKG. What are some of your thoughts? Anyone been on
ritalin a long time with a family history of heart disease, or do you have
high blood pressure (controlled) but have successfully been on stimulants
for a long time with no adverse consequences on your heart?
Christacey:

This sit e is not anti meds.  As best as i know it is totally centered on us getting the help we individually need, meds or not!

Adhd is very individual.

Your question IMHO is a good medical question for a heart  specialist.  Best wishes.
