First Day with Methylin/Tenex | ADHD Information
So we have finally finished one month of guanfacine (gen. tenex) and it is the first day of spring break. I gave ds his first dose of methylin this morning. We are starting with just 2.5mg (1/2 pill) to make sure there are no crazy reactions like he had when we tried 10mg almost five months ago. I'm letting him watch Saturday morning cartoons, so I'm not sure how it's working yet.
It says to give the methylin 30 min. before a meal. He's been taking 1/2mg of tenex in the morning and the second 1/2 after lunch at school. I want to give him the pills together, but if I follow his school schedule that would be around 11:00am for the second dose of methylin. Even if the methylin lasts four hours he would need another dose before school was out (at 3:00).
For those of you who do a tenex/stim combo...do you always give a dose of tenex at the same time as you give the stim?? I'm trying to make sure to follow a similar schedule over this break to what he will be doing during the school day. I know some of you do the short acting stims as well. Do any of you give four doses through the day? Do you split your tenex so that there is a portion taken with each stim?
We are still on the wait-list for the psychiatrist so I have only had the advice of our ped and he really has no idea other than what the psych has told him over the phone. I probably will only do two doses today and tomorrow (we don't have any social activities planned). But I want to be informed before I call the ped again on Monday. Any personal experience/advice would be great. Thanks all!
We are on a stim/Intuniv (guafacine long acting) combo. I give my son , both the stim Concerta and the quafacine in the morning at the same time so far it has worked out well. he would not take tenex as he would not take pills at school for any reason he is too embaressed. yes my spelling stinks. we may have to back down on the intuniv from 3mg to 2 mg because of eating issues we shall see waiting for both therapist and psychiatrist who rx them to see his opinion
my son is 11.5. and is skinney and small but until recently has held his own. now he is losing the weight again. frightens me.
good luck to you!
