Rebounding issues | ADHD Information
OK my daughter has been taking meds for 3 yrs. now (she is almost 9) and we have never gotten this rebound thing under control. I feel we have been through all adhd meds. Stimulant and nonstimulant. I must say things are much better than they have been in the past, but just today my husband said "I would much rather her make bad grades and be happy than go through this every afternoon" She is currently on 15mg Daytrana, 10mg Focalin XR, and Abilify 3mg each day. We are sure there is some mood issues and since being on Abilify that has improved. Basically now when only taking Abilify she is fine except for the extreme lack of focus. She has to take a stimulant to be able to function well when doing school work. I was just wondering if anyone else had the rebounding problems and if they were able to figure out a solution? My daughter starts pacing around the house about 5:30 saying she is bored. (She reminds me of a drug attic trying to come down off drugs.Which, is basically what is happeneing.) She is not happy doing anything you suggest. She is misserable! She is fussy, quick tempered, and can be a little too aggressive with her little sister. It really bothers us to see her go through this everyday. Has anyone ever heard of someone not being to tolerate stimulants? Thanksmy 6-year old has the same problem. Sometimes a booster dose helps in the afternoon, but most days from late afternoon until bedtime he is out of control!
It is so frustruating because earlier in the day he is doing great. We've tried ritalin, metadate and focalin.
has anyone tried Tenex or Intunive with the stim to ease the rebound. My son has started Intunive, long acting Tenex or guafacine the generic with his Concerta 72 mg. he is 11.
I also know a few people that use coca cola to ease rebound or mt dew with the high caffine content helps to calm them at that time.
Yes, guanfacine helps even things out. Tenex is short-acting guanfacine and Intuniv is long-acting guanfacine.
I've also heard of people using caffeine to help, but it never worked for my child.
