Observing during assesment | ADHD Information
Am wondering if anyone's dr. have let them do this? My mom was telling me the other day, that when my brother was going in for all his assesements when he was younger, they let her watch him through basically a two way window, so she could observe him. She had one of the other dr.s in there with her so she could ask questions and such about what was going on. I think this would be very eye opening and interesting to see how it all works. Just wondering if anyone here had been allowed to do this.
We don't have anything as fancy as assessment rooms where I live. But we also haven't had our visit with the psychiatrist yet. For the ped's assessment I was there in the room. Actually, everyone who has worked with/assessed my son has wanted me there for their assessments to get my take on what was going on. We usually waited until my son was finished and then visited without him in the room so that I could be more honest about his behavior (without damaging his already shaky self-esteem).
It would have been nice to have a mirrored window to look through...so that I could discuss (without being overheard) while the actual events were occurring! It's also important to remember that the way children act in a foreign or new environment will be different than how they act at home (or school). My son tends to be at his worst in the Dr.'s office. REALLY acting out and uncooperative. I made sure I told the Dr. that he isn't always that bad...and he's better at school than he is at home.
So if you aren't in the room for the assessment...be prepared to give your own input as well. Oh, the other funny thing about my son is that some people think the world of him...and others can stand to be around him. His ped is sort of in-between, so I take what he says with a grain of salt.

lol, my son is usually the opposite, very calm and collected at his ped's office, but then, we usually aren't there very long. his psych dr. who he has seen once and seeing again tomorrow, he was very well behaved the first visit, but it wasn't very long either, but the one tomorrow will be at least 2 hours, so i think it will be a much different scenario for him lol.
