The only thing they lowered was his concerta from 72 to 54. And that happened after the baseball bat incident. I have thought about starting from scratch but think that it will be a "in hospital" stay, I can't imagine what he would do to our other children while taking him off meds.
*UPDATE* My son lost it Thursday! He went to counseling in the morning and went back to school. I got a phone call that he had gotten into two fights. One was cause the boy (whom he had gotten upset with in the original post) kept telling the kids not to play with him at recess and another boy came up to him saying something nasty, so my son started to kick him then went inside the class after recess and punched the first kid he had gotten into it with. SOunds confusing but my son was the only one punished and I am positive that the other boy had been bullying my son all week. School is now covering their butt by getting the counselor involved when I went and told the principal last Monday that things were not good but nothing was done. My son is not innocent by any means but if the school had gotten involved none of this would have happened.
I also have a call into the doctor about going off all meds this summer and starting from scratch.
busy10440286.7227662037Lord, sounds like what's been going on with my son. He doesn't have ODD,i think starting fresh with the meds is a GREAT idea.
I am so sorry with all that your son and you have been put throught. Yes it does take two, and there was someone else involved, it wasn't just your son.
I want to add that we are on concerta AND guanfacine. The guanfacine really smoothes everything out for my son. He has been on the combo for 6 + years now.
When we began meds, we were using our pediatrician and having really hard times. We started at the end of school and dealt with negative side effects.
The pediatrician referred us to a pyschopharmacologist. We stopped all meds until my son was out for the summer ( about 2-3 weeks) and started fresh. My son was turning 7 at the time.
It was the best thing we ever did. He went back to school with the correct med routine for him.
He is a very passive child, so I don't deal with any aggressive behavior, BUT he is on the receiving end of crap and doesn't stick up for himself. Still working on it. It is hard when his personality isn't the type that thinks and does mean stuff.
Please let us know how things are going through out the summer.
