Are the anger issues new or did they start when you add a medication?  Maybe he is reacting negatively to one of the medications or a combination of them.

I've have a friend that under the guidance of her doctor,  took her son off over everything he was on and started over from scratch.  It was help to weed out issues vs. side effects of medications.

The only thing they lowered was his concerta from 72 to 54.  And that happened after the baseball bat incident.  I have thought about starting from scratch but think that it will be a "in hospital" stay, I can't imagine what he would do to our other children while taking him off meds.

*UPDATE*  My son lost it Thursday!  He went to counseling in the morning and went back to school.  I got a phone call that he had gotten into two fights.  One was cause the boy (whom he had gotten upset with in the original post) kept telling the kids not to play with him at recess  and another boy came up to him saying something nasty, so my son started to kick him then went inside the class after recess and punched the first kid he had gotten into it with.  SOunds confusing but my son was the only one punished and I am positive that the other boy had been bullying my son all week.  School is now covering their butt by getting the counselor involved when I went and told the principal last Monday that things were not good but nothing was done.  My son is not innocent by any means but if the school had gotten involved none of this would have happened.

I also have a call into the doctor about going off all meds this summer and starting from scratch.

busy10440286.7227662037Lord, sounds like what's been going on with my son. He doesn't have ODD,
but his frustration level has been through the roof. The theory is that he's
starting to be affected by puberty. He's starting a new program with his
counsellor starting this Tuesday. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Best of luck with your son! Ahh puberty what fun lol I agree with the others and think a fresh start is a good thing. Just be sure you have the right doc for your son.spamula40287.475462963I don't even know where to turn anymore.  My 10yr old son has ADHD, ODD, Seperation Anxiety disorder.  Two weeks ago he got really angry at a friend and went after him with a metal baseball bat( he didn't hit the kid but hit his bike) and told him he was going to kill him.   School has been terrible since this happend cause the other boy is telling everyone to not be friends with my son. Then on Sunday he couldn't leave the neighbor girl alone and told her he was going to kill her, the same thing happend tonight.  I am sick of the phone calls.  We are trying our best with counseling and some change in meds but hell is going on and I don't know what to do about it anymore.  He takes  54mg Concerta, 10 mg Lexapro, Guanfacine 1mg, Risperdal 1mg,  10mg ritilan in the p.m.and Trazodone 75mg plus melatonin.  I know its a lot but is there anything else out there to try?

i think starting fresh with the meds is a GREAT idea.

I am so sorry with all that your son and you have been put throught. Yes it does take two, and there was someone else involved, it wasn't just your son.

I want to add that we are on concerta AND guanfacine. The guanfacine really smoothes everything out for my son. He has been on the combo for 6 + years now.

When we began meds, we were using our pediatrician and having really hard times. We started at the end of school and dealt with negative side effects.

The pediatrician referred us to a pyschopharmacologist. We stopped all meds until my son was out for the summer ( about 2-3 weeks) and started fresh. My son was turning 7 at the time.
It was the best thing we ever did. He went back to school with the correct med routine for him.

He is a very passive child, so I don't deal with any aggressive behavior, BUT he is on the receiving end of crap and doesn't stick up for himself. Still working on it. It is hard when his personality isn't the type that thinks and does mean stuff.

Please let us know how things are going through out the summer.
