Strattera-Concerta question | ADHD Information

We are still trying to make this darn Strattera work for us!

First it was helping...then it wasn't doing much in the afternoon...then she was incredibly tired on it. We split the dose (the doc's advice). Still tired. We backed down on the dose (again, doc's advice). Still tired. She actually lay down and tried to go to sleep in the middle of the play area at the mall.

We went to night dosing. Good results, but not much coverage after 3 p.m. So we went back to the doc. He said add the Concerta back in - we had tried Concerta twice before in different stages of the Strattera and it aggravated the heck out of her, just like the other stimulants we have tried.

The doctor, a pediatric neuro, said to wait THREE WEEKS to see if the irritability/anxiety will subside. We have had a weekend of constant crying.  I absolutely cannot see my baby in such pain for three weeks.

My question: Why three weeks? Aren't you supposed to tell in a day or so if a stimulant will work? We have been on other stims before and they all do the same thing - increase her already higih anxiety.

I am thinking of not giving the Concerta tomorrow. Maybe I should be happy with the limited results we are seeing from the Strattera?

I really don't have a lot of advice, we have been on the same roller coaster with meds tryig to still figure out what is best.  We have not tried Strattera, concerned that since my DS has high anxiety, the ADD component would increase his anxiety.  I'm sure you have posted current and past meds before but, is your DD still on zoloft? Have you tried Tenex and/or Intuniv along with the Zoloft?  Or have you tried the Tenex/Intuniv route with a stim?  I have always understood as well that with a stim., you should see results almost right away, but I do know a few that believe a few days should give you a good result, not a few weeks.  It seems that most of the meds you are trying are long acting, maybe trying to switch to a more short acting med, I know that maybe a pain giving meds and keeping track of the meds throughout the day, but it may be worth trying.  I hope you find the right combo, we are still working to find our right combo, at this point nothing seems to be really working for us.  Good luck.
