Medication Success for 3 Year Old? | ADHD Information

Hi - I"m new to the board and my 3.5 year old was diagnosed with ADHD....originally because she has various behaviors, they had thought she was autism-spectrum disorder and to that end had been put on a medication called risperdal to control agressive behaviors.  I had subsequently gone to a different doctor who diagnosed her with ADHD and put her on adderall.  She had a very bad reaction to the adderall and had taken her off of it and continued with risperdal only.  I wanted to see if there were any parents out there of young children like mine who had success with any particular medicine or herbal remedy - specifically I"m speaking about children under 6 years old or my daughter's age.  Thanks in advance!Hi evabaran and welcome to the board!  My son started medication at 3 yrs old (shortly before his 4th birthday).  We tried Adderall first and it worked well for the hyperactivity/impulsiveness but he had horrible rebound when it wore off!   The doc switched him to Ritalin and wow what a difference!  No rebound and he's much better on it!  My son is 5 now and getting the meds right has been a long journey but I think we finally have it!  We've added Strattera and Tenex and even though this sounds like a lot for a kid to take, it works for him and makes him a much happier kid!  Make sure you work with a specialist (a psychiatrist or psychopharmacologist) and not just the pediatrician.  The medications are just too difficult to get right to trust someone other than a specialist!  You'll get a much quicker result if you do!  Good luck and keep us posted!
