Hi everyone, Just wanted to introduce myself
I'm Devina from Bedfordshire, England and i have a 9 1/2 yr old son who was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 6. He is currently taking 10mg Ritalin in the morning and 15mg at lunch time. He has also recently been prescribed melatonin to help with his sleep problems. So far he has been on the melatonin for 4 weeks and it's fantastic!
he now gets to sleep BEFORE the rest of the household
Hi Devina,
I'm Donna also from the UK there are only a few of us from the UK and it's always nice to have a fellow Brit on board. Everyone is very supportive and the forum is informative. ADHD is the same in the UK as it is in the US but the medication seems to be slightly different.
My son is 8 and is ADHD he is on Equasym / Ritalin and has 15 hours 1 to 1 support in school. I had to fight tooth and nail for support and it has been worth it his reading has gone from level 1 to level 8 since starting back in Sept.
We as a family fought against the medication for a long time and explored many avenues until last April when we decided to give the meds a shot and i have to admit that they have worked.
Once again welcome aboard and would love to hear some of your ADHD stories we all have them.

hey welcome i'm also from the uk i'm 17 and i got ADD and i going to start the med in a few weeks time to do better in collage so

I agree with you crazy cat i have found myself dipping into the site mainly to remind myself that i am not alone and altough we have the Atlantic ocean seperating us we are united in the fact that we have the same ups and down when it comes to being parents of special children. We suffer the same prejudices and lack of understanding.
I have always advocated awareness when it comes to ADHD/ADD. However, from my personal experience, i have come to belive that it is only the people/parents that truly understand the difficulties and frustrations that we face on a daily basis. And the joys and jubilations that come with the small , or should i say big, achievements that are children make. I don't know what it is like to have ADHD but i do know what it is like to love and live with my child who does. This forum is a palce i can come to and no matter UKor US we understand eachother.
Thanks Dansmum
